New forestry recommendations offer Finnish forest owners new and more numerous alternatives for tending their forests. Forest owners have the opportunity of emphasizing timber production, or of securing forest biodiversity.

The Forestry Development Centre TAPIO has drafted renewed recommendations for good forestry, in close co-operation with shop floor level operators, researchers and interest groups.
Determination when forests are mature for renewal and diversification of forest clearing methods are the most important changes in the new recommendations. They increase forest owners' opportunities to engage in financially most effective timber production, as well as to take account of other possible objectives for forest management.
