Slovakia hosts world's first carbon neutral rally race (ForestPress)

The first ever carbon neutral rally race will take place on 31 August, near the Slovakian city of Poprad. The Slovak Rally Championship, Tempus Rally 2007, will reach its fifth stage in Poprad, the first time the race has been staged in the protected mountainous region of High Tatras in more than seven years.

Lithuanian plans Baltic Sea swim for environment (Reuters)

VILNIUS - A former Lithuanian triathlete said on Saturday he planned to become the first person to swim across the Baltic Sea to call attention to its environmental problems. Vidmantas Urbonas, the 1998 world ultra-triathlon champion, is to start on July 22 from Kalmar in southeast Sweden and head for Pavilosta in southwest Latvia, about 209 km (130 miles) away.

Swiss plan to put lid on skiing (swissinfo)

Switzerland's ski industry is contemplating opening the country's first indoor ski area to encourage more young people living in urban areas to take up the sport. According to the Swiss association of mountain lift companies, the number of youngsters who know how to ski or snowboard is decreasing by about ten per cent a year.

SAFETY FIRST DURING FOREST RALLY (ForestPress)

Several rights of way in the Lake District National Park are being closed next month when a major rally takes place in and around Grizedale Forest. More than 100 cars will compete in the Malcolm Wilson Rally 2005 on Saturday 5 March, using forest roads on the western side of the Grizedale Forest complex, and on Forestry Commission land at Whinlatter and Wythop.

Forest Service gets tough on snowmobilers (Associated Press)

KALISPELL - The Flathead National Forest is beefing up patrols and getting tougher on snowmobilers who venture into areas where they're not supposed to. Forest officials say snowmobile trespassing into designated wilderness and other areas where motor vehicles are forbidden is becoming an increasing problem in the region.
